Eco India: Hat trick for Indian at Green Oscars

India Eco-Speak
New Delhi : Wildlife filmmaker Mike H. Pandey has become the first Indian to win the Panda Award, also known as the Green Oscars, for the third time. His entry for this year, Vanishing Giants, a film on the Asian Elephant, bagged the top award at the Wildscreen International Film Festival for Environment and Conservation in Bristol.

Mike has earlier won the award for Shores of Silence on shark whales in Indian in 2000.In 1994, he received an award for The Last Migration - Wild Elephant Capture in Sarguja, becoming the first Asian to win the Wildscreen Panda.

There was fierce competition for the top award, with the BBC, National Geographic and the Discovery Channel among the 29 entrants.

India, which had five entries, bagged the largest number of awards at the festival, with Ajay Bedi getting the Beginner's Category award for Policing the Langur; The Eighteenth Elephant by Balan and Radha of Kerala received the award in the television category. Mike also figured in the list of those nominated for the Best Filmmaker on Conservation.
