Jaisalmer: On June 21, the cremation ground at Mokhil No.8 in Barmer town hosted a weding ceremony. It might be the last place one can think of for a marriage, but here there in no bravado or adventure attached to this seemingly weird venue as the bride’s mother is an employee of the cremation ground trust.

Leela Kandara, in her invitation card has invited the guests to the ceremation ground for her daughter Kaushalya’s wedding and further asked them to attend a feast the next day at 10 am. Leela has an emotional attachment with the place where she lives with her fanily of three and has been workings as a cleaner for the last seven years.

 

The wedding is being sponsored by the cremation ground trust and the arrangements to hosts the guests have been done at various places marked for the departed souls.

 

“This might sound strange, but a month back we held the engagements cereminony of the couple at the same venue. The bride’s mother has been living here ever since her husband who was IV employee, passed away. Everyone treats Kaushalya and her brother as children of the cerematorium” said Bhawani Singh Shekhawat, president of the trust.

 

Interestingly the bridegroom’s family agreed to participate in the engagement ceremony in the same venue a month back.

 

Going through a financial crunch Leela is yet to receive the provident fund money of her husband and can barely make ends meet. Hence, she requested the trust to make arrangements for her daughter’s wedding.
