Mangalore: Incessant rain in and aroud Mangalore since last Friday night has crippled train services on the Konkan Railway route. A mudside at Kulshekar near Mangalore junction (Kankanady) station made matters worse on last Saturday.

 

 

North-bound trains could not proceed towards their destinations as tracks were water-logged. Southern Railway offcials said restoration work was going on a war footing. The track is likely to be restored by 10 am on Sunday. Technicians and senior offcials have reached the spot and are inspecting the restoration work.

 

Southern Railway officials said passenger trains between Verna and Mangalore Central (KR 1), and between Mangalore and Verna (KR 2), were can-called. Rajdhani Express (2431) between Thiruvanthapuram and Hazrat Nizamuddin was diverted via Arsikere, Hubli and Madgaon.

 

Ernakulam-Okha Express (6338), Thiruvananthapuram-Hazrat Nizamuddin Mangala Express (2617), Kochuveli-Chandigarh Sampark Kranti Express (2217), Thiruvananthapuram-LTT Netravathi Express (6346) and Thiruvananthapuram-Bikaner Express (6312) were diverted via Shoranur, Podanur, Omalur, Dharmavaram, Gooty, Raichur, Pune and Vasai Road.
