In the wake of the November 26 terror strike at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST), Central Railway authorities are working towards providing adequate safety measures in and around the station premises. The authorities want to install fire extinguishers and make provisions to ensure that people can exit the newly inaugurated food plaza, Re-fresh, in case of another attack.

After inaugurating Re-fresh 24-hour food plaza at CST station’s suburban section, CR general manager BB Modgil inspected the entire area, including the kitchen, to monitor hygiene levels.

 

“The food served here will be reasonably priced. We plan to offer an unlimited thali for Rs 50, as against the regular thali for Rs 60,” said Pankaj Goel, owner of Goel and Goel.

 

“We want adequate measures taken in case of emergencies, especially since cooking has been permitted inside the premises. They have received approval from the fire department and the medical superintendents working with the railways, but the safety of passengers also needs to be taken care of,” Modgil said.

 

The outlet is a joint venture between Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), and Goel and Goel. “The ground floor will have state-of-the-art machines with billing software. The mezzanine has a dine-in café with modern looks, offering ethnic thalis for lunch and dinner, combo meals and desserts,” said Goel.

 

“The food quality will be monitored by our health inspectors as well as by IRCTC officials,” Modgil said.
