Kolkata/Darjeeling/Guwahati: Having weathered a particularly difficult period in the recent past, the wheels of fortune finally seem to be turning in favour of India’s tea industry.

 

 

At a time when most industries are reeling under the impact of the global financial meltdown, local tea companies are reaping the benefits of a global demand-supply mismatch triggered by adverse change in weather patterns in competing tea producing nations.

 

Indian tea has started fetching some of its highest prices in over a decade and a price rise of Rs 20-30 per kg has also seen in domestic auctions.
