VADODARA: The Centre is planning to allocate Rs 3,000 crore for constructing a third rail line between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, according to the Union Minister of State for Railways, Mr Naranbhai Rathva.

He told newspersons here that the Centre was actively considering the project after receiving a survey report on the route. The Railway Ministry has accorded top priority to convert narrow gauge sections into broad gauge in Gujarat and accordingly, narrow gauge lines on the Chhotaudepur-Pratapnagar, Ankleshwar-Rajpipla and Fahej-Samiy-Ali sections would be converted into broad gauge, he said.

Mr Rathva also said that in an effort to reduce congestion of rail traffic on the Vadodara broad gauge section, it has been decided to converge the narrow gauge section on Godhra-Miyagam route into broad gauge.
