A fresh request from the central government to shift two or three prides of lions from the Gir national park and sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh has been turned down by the Gujarat government. Though the state has not sent across a formal reply to the request which came in mid-July, there is complete consensus in Gujarat that the state should remain the only habitat of the Asiatic lions in the wild.

First sighted here in 1991, the Greater Flamingoes and Lesser Flamingoes are seen in the Sewree Mangrove Park on the eastern sea-face of Mumbai. On an average, more than 5,000 flamingoes arrive every year, said Isaac Kehimkar, an official of the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS).
